چکیده

My motivation is to participate in the creation of Virtual Humans as described in Gratch et al, 2002. The research into Virtual Humans brings together many different fields, such as computer graphics, Artificial Intelligence, speech recognition, speech synthesis, psychology, philosophy and many more. But my interest is orientated towards emotions and personalities. Much work has been carried out to give emotions and personality to Virtual Humans or agents, as I will call them later in this report. But no one has implemented a complete emotional system, from environment appraisal to action selection and including all types of emotions. I am not proposing to solve this problem and to do all the work but instead I propose to separate the huge task in smaller ones. I will concentrate on a dynamic representation of emotion or a Dynamic Emotion Representation as the title of this report suggests. In fact, through the remainder of the paper I will explain why it is possible to dissociate the representation of emotion from the generation of emotion and from the action selection. In the first place, I will give an overview of a theory of emotions in section 2; followed by a presentation of two theories of mood in section 3. A personality model is briefly introduced in section 4. Then, I will review the implementations of different emotional and personality models in section 5. In section 6, I will present my arguments for the implementation of a Dynamics Emotion Representation system. I will expose my first attempt of this implementation and its results in section 7. Finally, section 8 will explain the possible future developments and the conclusion will be section 9.

Music Emotion Tracking with Continuous Conditional Neural Fields and Relative Representation

This working notes paper introduces the system proposed by the Rainbow group for the MediaEval Emotion in Music 2014 task. The task is concerned with predicting dynamic emotion labels for an excerpt of a song and for our approach we use Continuous Conditional Neural Fields and relative feature representation both of which have been developed or adapted by our group.

Machine Interpretation of Emotion: Design of a Memory-Based Expert System for Interpreting Facial Expressions in Terms of Signaled Emotions

As a first step in involving user emotion in human-computer interaction, a memory based expert system (JANUS; Kearney, 1991) was designed to interpret facial expression in terms of the signaled emotion. Anticipating that a VDU-mounted camera will eventually supply face parameters automatically, JANUS now accepts manually made measurements an a digitized full-face photograph and returns emotion ...

Emotions as Durative Dynamic State for Action Selection

This paper presents a representation system for maintaining interacting durative states to replicate realistic emotional control. Our model, the Dynamic Emotion Representation (DER) integrates emotional responses and keeps track of emotion intensities changing over time. The developer can specify an interacting network of emotional states with appropriate onsets, sustains and decays. The levels...

Agents , Emergence , Emotion and Representation Darryl

This paper presents an analysis of issues pertaining to the relation between computational emergence and emotion in cognitive agent systems. We consider how a developing computational theory of cognition can be used to monitor and manage interactions with and within complex systems. Goal-based agent systems sometimes need to postpone or abandon important goals in favor of more immediate concern...

A Layered Dynamic Emotion Representation for the Creation of Complex Facial Expressions

This paper describes the Dynamic Emotional Representation (DER): a series of modules for representing and combining the many different types and time-courses of internal state which underly complex, human-like emotional responses. This system may be used either to provides a useful real-time, dynamic mechanism for animating emotional characters, or to underly the personality and action-selectio...
